"If you cycle in the Hudson Valley, you'll be interested in this issue. Route 299 leading west from New Paltz to the Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park is slated to become a NYS Touring Route. Unfortunately, the Shawangunk Scenic Byway opposes upgrading the road to meet state safety standards for cyclists. The reason? Doing so may degrade the 'viewshed' for motorists.
