I have a pair of Rudy flip ups. Don't think the name is Exception though. I don't have them with me so I can't check the name. Anyway, when I flip them up, that part always separates from the frame. If the Exception is different I hope that was improved.

Those are the old ones

The old Rudy Project RB3 flip-ups separated if you weren't very careful how you flipped them. I'm told on the new version (don't know what they're called) the flip-up outer lens is attached at the hinged and no longer comes off. I had the old ones (destroyed in a crash) and loved the concept, so I've been considering getting the new ones. It's a great idea for those of us who can't see without a presciption - you don't have to carry a second pair of glasses with you to wear indoors.

The ones I saw were hinged and it looks like they can't come off.

rudy project

I have used a pair of Exception glasses daily for a year now. They are perfect! The shades flip up, never come off by accident, unhinge easily, and fit in my back pocket when its too dark. I am really Hard on my glasses and these have withstood being tossed about without a case for about 8000 miles. Would definately get another pair. Also they very comfortable.
