Someone asked at work last week, so I had to count...

My yearly log has a total of 220 (full) laps in Central Park. About 1/3 of my total mileage. I was thinking it would be more. (This doesn't count partial loops getting out to the GWB or hill repeats at the north end, which would get me more miles)

I guessed about 300 at work. I was told I was crazy, but I said I am sure there are people that had at least doubled me.
Anyone?

My year end stats are in. 8,131 total miles, of which are 217 full laps in Central Park. It could have been more, but Mr. Rosenthal (big thanks) showed me the way to Bradley/Tweed and that became the go to ride. All in all, a great year. Safe 2007 to all!

laps in the park

alan geiger holds the record of laps in the park in one day(not counting the pepsi marathon with the 102nd street cut-off)of I think 22 laps!
In the 1970s and early 1980s common were 100 mile races of 16 laps(under 4 hours)
for yearly totals-alan geiger is way up there and I imagine mike levine, avalo york, and others(myself -I only did around 450 laps of the park this year)

CP laps

Training log started 4/6/06. Since then I have 459 laps logged. With the base miles last winter in prep for racing this year, I did somewhere around 600-650 laps this year.

Oh gees, you made me count. 217 full laps, making up about a third of my miles for the year. (Ted, cprider, I'm not copying you! Honest!)

730 laps, Marcia??? How about some advice on how to fight the boredom? Going to the park is becoming a chore.

Yes, I couldn't believe it myself.
I've taken to identifying local birds & mimicking their songs. So, if you see me, please show me the way out.

I'd be shocked to find I did more than 10 in my life. When I want park riding, I go to Prospect.

Yes, but Bill...

You live a few blocks from Prospect Park. If you lived on the Upper West Side and went to Prospect Park to do laps, that would be news.

I don't often do laps in either park, but in my experience Prospect Park has a much more social feel. I start alone, but usually end up riding with another person or with a group for a while. In Central Park I usually ride alone and keep to myself, and most other cyclists seem to do the same. Another advantage to Prospect Park is that it's much more rideable on weekends than Central Park. On the other hand, I wouldn't ride in Prospect Park at 11:00 p.m., which I've done numerous times in Central Park. And if I'm riding alone, Prospect Park is more monotonous because the laps are shorter and the terrain is flatter.

I've seen this episode....

"Wasn't this one of the lost episodes of the Twilight Zone?
Yeah, I'm sure it was. Episode #69 called ""The cyclist who could only turn left"".

Some how due to a leg imbalance that occurred from living on the side of a mountain in his youth, the right leg became WAY stronger than the left. Think similar to Popeye's arms in size, but his left leg was similar to OliveOils legs. In anycase, because of this
imbablance the cyclist could only make left turns. No matter how hard he trained and rode, he was trapped in
""The Cental Park Loop"" also known as the Twilight Zone.

"""You can never step in the same river twice.""

And so it is, thankfully, with Central Park."
