Saturday looks to be really cold for a long ride, which means our Sunday Hogwich ride will be longer than I originally planned.

This is a warning: If you don't want to do 60-65 miles from the bridge with a few hills, please skip the ride this week.

We'll do the standard route up to South Mtn. Road, up Little Tor and back via 9W. When we did this a few times last winter we regrouped after Little Tor at the bottom of the hill. We'll do the same this winter.

Our 5 minute pee break (there will be one this week) will be at the Toga bike shop at the bottom of the Rockland Lake hill on 9W. That's a prefect place to regroup anyway if the group splits again. After that it's straight down 9W home.

It may be in the low 30's when we start, although it should warm up nicely by the time we finish. Hello Winter. Plan on this ride being 3.5 to 4 hours, which means we should be back to the bridge by Noon-12:30 PM.
Still time for Brunch.

"Todd,
For those of us far from the start point this ride will be 85+ miles. Doing that on 2 water bottles is hard. I was wondering if we could coincide the pee break with the water break so we could refill halfway.

sam,

i'm positive (well, 99% sure) you can get water, sports drink or bars at the Toga shop. Personally, I've never visited, but hear it's well-stocked.

sorry the only solution i can think of to reduce your mileage is to take the train up to the bridge or for the return (or both). i do it all the time after a gimbel's ride when i think riding the extra 10-20 miles does more harm than good. something to think about.

If Toga doesn't have the drink you want...

...there's a deli just a short distance south of Toga on 9W, a little past Christian Herald Rd.

"Brilliant :) Toga nearby and 3rd bottle. Really never occurred to me (3rd bottle I mean.) Can't complain. Thank you.

Carry Food

Also in winter months, if my planning works out, I carry a sandwich, cut into quarters and wrapped in foil. It is usually easy enough to open while on the bike or at least consume at stop lights. The quartering is key.

I wish

"""After that it's straight down 9W home.""

seems to me there's a lot of ""up"" 9W before home from this point : )"
