Dopers.

Hey Bart- I suppose there is no doping in your world of cyclocross? Despite your comment, it is clear that Discovery can finally say that they have a true leader to replace Lance. In fact had he not been banned, I still feel that Basso would have given Landis a run for his money at the tour. And will surely be the man to beat in '07.

Anyone care to chime in? Kelly? De Vlaminck? Mercx?

Dopers???

Bart,

Do you have any proof beyond hearsay or your own conjecture that Basso is a doper? And, please don't rely on Operacion Puerto to support your conclusion. It's specious investigations, like Operacion Puerto, which purport guilt by association that have cost some innocent cyclists their livelihoods.

And, talk about 'dopey' . . . What do you think about someone who appropriates the name of a onetime or current professional cyclist to post on a public message board? That is pretty dopey in my book!

P.S. Oh boy, this has got to be good for a least 200 threads. ;0p

I was thinking that myself, but in realty does Levi think he can hang with Basso? I think not. Basso is (considered my many in the know) the best and classiest rider in the world today. And if you watched his first mountain victory in this year's Giro, the way he pulled away from Cunego, et al while remaining seated the whole time was quite impressive. He didn't look like he was even trying. Besides, Levi can have the Vuelta leadership (although if Tom D. is on form or if Poppo realizes his potential) and perhaps Tour of California. Not Georgia- That would be Tom D.

You must understand, John, Basso was able to easily drop everyone in the Giro because he was doped.

"""You must understand, John, Basso was able to easily drop everyone in the Giro because he was doped.""

So, I guess Johan & Co. are being completely disrespectful to the sport and are definite ""dope collaborators"". And that everyone connected to Operacion Puerto is therefore guilty as tried by the media, Dick Pound and Pat McQuaid.

Well, my fellow cyclocrosser, would it be reasonable then to wait until his DNA comes back positive(which, I understand that the test would be a condition of his employment as are all ProTour teams obliged)
Before you have completely slammed the door on his career/life? If found guilty, I will gladly supply the stones for you to throw at him. Until then, give the guy (and Floyd and Tyler) the benefit of the DOUBT!!!"

"Leaving Tyler out, I agree with your last paragraph.

""I guess Johan & Co. are being completely disrespectful to the sport and are definite 'dope collaborators'"".

That is precisely what is on the table.

The reaction from Riis was obvious. Pro-tour teams had agreed not to hire puerto implicated riders. Discovery decided to ignore this.

You all are right, this is based on my own speculation, and I do hope I'm wrong. But things pile on and on and all point to the same awful place: Basso doped.

... Don't get me started on Pound and McQuaid, these two fools cause more harm than all dopers put together."
