I saw a series of NYCC Bicycle Maintenance Workshop and thought it was a great idea. I know the basics of wrenching a bike so I didn't enroll in any of them but from what I understand, the entire series were a hit.

I have a set of tubular wheelset that I occasionally use. However, I've never changed a tubular tire before. I've read everything on it but I would still like to see visually how it's done.

I'm wondering if there will be future workshops and if so, will you consider tubular tire maintenance (i.e. changing a tire)?

Thanks.
Luke

Tubular? Tubular?

This is not covered in Bicycle Repair Workshop. It is, however, covered in the Buggy Whip Mending Workshop.

Bicycle maintenance

I totally need a refresher course on maintenance AND changing flats. Anyone know when another series will be held or of a bike shop offering one?

Thanks Ellen, I knew the place and most of the name.

It is a very low key NOT pressured group.

AS there are SO FEW who still use tubulars a workshop or a club talk would be poorly attended.(guaranteed)
If you want a 10-15 minute lesson on removing and regluing email me and we can arrange a time and I'll be happy to teach you. Alan Resnick

I think quite a few people would be interested!!!

I think more people than you think would be interested in attending. I, for one, would sign up in a heartbeat! In fact, I have a pair of Zipp 404s that I haven't used in races simply because I'm scared I'd get a flat and not be able to do anything about it.

MANY triathletes use tubulars (or would like to, but might be intimidated, not knowing how to change them). I know this is a cycling, not a tri club, but there are many triathletes (myself included) who are members. In any case, if response is insufficient from the NYCC members, it could be a joint workshop with one (or several) tri clubs, such as TANYC, AGTC, TerrierTri...

"I would be interested, too -- i've been considering tubulars as race-day wheels.

I'm shocked at the weight differences between clinchers and tubulars at the same price points, particularly as carbon rims slowly come down in price. Tubular tires can be found with Kevlar casing, and there's even an article on nyvelocity.com that describes using Stan's No-Tubes to repair cuts."

tubular interest

I'd also be interested in a lesson. I have tubulars on my track bike and pray nothing ever happens to them.

Alan - Many thanks for the offer! I'd love to attend that day but 4PM is tough at the moment. (I've been putting 11 hour days at work including weekends).

I've read a lot on the 'net and even own Zinn & The Art of Road Bike Maintenance but still a bit skiddish since I haven't applied what I've read into real world applications.

I guess I'll just have to get a new set of tubies and glue and then unglue the tubies I have on my wheelset now. I want to get new tubular tires since I read that those have to be stretched. I want to go through this excercise soup to nuts.

Thanks again!
Luke
