PHOENIX - Authorities said an unidentified man on a bicycle was struck and killed Wednesday by a juvenile that took his mother's SUV for a ride.

The man was riding the bike about 8:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of East Elwood Street when the vehicle hit him.

He died at the scene, according to a police supervisor.

The officer could not say what would happen to the driver of the SUV, a 15-year-old boy, but the case will be referred to Phoenix police's vehicle crimes unit.

No further information was available.

And you know what will happen - the boy, because he is underage, will not get any jail time. A slap on the wrist. Another one of us gets taken down without any consequence.

An unnecessary death. Very tragic. Just another reminder that as cyclists, we need to insist on safe roads for us to travel. I personally feel that NYC is dragging it's feet when it comes to saftey on the roads. If Chicago can become the most bike friendly city in such a short time, why does NYC say 2009. The voice of the people must be heard.
