"Here's a true story of a beat cop in the Bronx who recently joined the NYPD. He is very much a cyclist and is well known to a number of us in the cycling community. (No, I'm not going to mention his name.)
He writes, ""I saw a cyclist get hit by a car yesterday, but the cyclist did not want to file a report. I even told him that he did not have to worry about not being a citizen.""
A tip of my helmet to him. Even if it didn't involve a cyclist, to assure an immigrant, legal or illegal, he should not fear government reprisal is terrific. And coming from a uniformed cop is all the more terrific."
