"The home page states, ""We are seeking candidates for PRESIDENT, MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR and VICE PRESIDENT of RIDES."" Who wrote that? And why?

Look, not for one second do I mean to suggest the incumbents who are running again should be replaced...but shouldn't the club at least appear to be even-handed and encourage candidates for ALL the board positions instead of appearing to favor present office holders? Shouldn't the club be even-handed and say: ""The club president, membership director, and VP of rides are stepping down, and candidates are welcomed for ALL board positions"" so it doesn't appear to be tilting in favor of some people?

Given the history of our club, it's highly unlikely anyone would come forward and compete for an occupied office--but, still, all in all, appearances count.

...Just asking...."

That was encouraged

Perhaps you missed it, Richard, but in an earlier announcement on the home page and in the e-weekly, it was stated that people should consider running for any office. However, since we haven't had very many volunteers forthcoming, we have put particular energy into recruiting people for the open positions. Got any good ideas how to get more people interested in running?

Why not encourage ……?

"richard, you make and interesting and valid observation. however, I think the “expanded question”, if I may, is, where is everyone? we have, give or take, 1900 members in this club and yet we are continuously short on volunteers [which, of course, what these positions are]. We’re short on volunteers for the eny, short on rides [leaders], etc. so where is everyone? It’s nice to show up and have everything done for you but to take my often used tag line, “it’s your club, get involved” as you and a few others consistently do. we publicize that, ""We are seeking candidates for PRESIDENT, MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR and VICE PRESIDENT of RIDES."" and yet how many individuals have stepped forward? Interestingly enough, at the sept prog meeting both carol & annaline encouraged people to run, carol encouraging nominations even for positions that were re-nominated. a call repeated by allaline at the oct prog meeting. and yet how many individuals have stepped forward? So I suggest to everyone, each of you belong to this club for a reason. help it stay a great club by giving a little of your time & talent for something. I repeat, “it’s your club, get involved”.
