For the next few hours, the Message Board will be offline, of sorts. Of sorts - meaning you will not be able to post messages, for certain, during this time. Reading messages, perhaps will be ok for some of the time, albeit be a bit spotty though. At some point, the plug will be pulled and it will be completely off line. This is only a temporary while the message board undergoes some necessary surgical work. Thank you for your patience - from the MB surgical staff.
Message about the Message Board
Thank you, Peter!
Allow me to announce that the NYCC message board has been upgraded with some tweeks to the presentation and changes to some functions. Most importantly, the message board now has an administration interface that allows for more people to moderate it.
More details to follow later.
But I am sure somebody who gives nothing back to the club will find something to grip about.
I've always been impressed by the lean and clean look of the nycc message board. Easy to navigate, no clutter and it loads fast too. Much better than a lot of those php boards that seem so bloated these days.
Well done that man!
Thanks to Peter O'Reilly and Timothy McCarthy for all their hard work on this. I know many of the improvements are behind the scenes and invisible to message board users, but they are improvements none-the-less and will make the board better. So thanks, guys.
Excellent!
Would we had this message board - let alone a message board and all the other electronic communication devices - once upon a time, almost long ago, when the writer was President of NYCC.
Again, many thanks for your superlative efforts in our behalf.
When did the website first go up? And the message board? It almost seems as if the message board has always been in existence because it has become such an integral part of the NYCC community.
During my tenure, some ten years or more ago, Clif Kranish suggested and the board approved that we register our domain - NYCC.org. Clif did the registration. Some time after that - after my term - the website and message board came into being. I believe that it was during Ben Goldberg's term in office. Anyone with greater memory than mine is welcome to correct this.
I'm pretty sure that Cliff Kranish put up the first official NYCC website. A little later on, Robin Read did a total redesign that was the basis for the site you see today.
Part of Robin's redesign included the first ever NYCC Message Board. Little did she suspect what she was about to unleash!
what ever happened to him? the overall look hasn't changed much since robin redesigned it, although the back end is light years ahead of where it was (even though i have some gripes about mb functionality...hopefully it's taken as constructive criticism...i'll know if this post is deleted

t'is CLIF not CLIFF
"That would be me. The NYCC web site actually predates the domain name, put up on my personal account. It was almost all text but at least we would be found in a web search for New York and Cycle. I think it was in 1995.
When I moved out of the city in 1996 and changed internet service providers, I indeed proposed to the board that we register ""nycc.org"" which they approved. With hindsight that was a smart move at the time because later we never would have gotten the name.
It's great to see what the web site has become today.
"
Who was the first poster to the message board?
Who was the first person to be censored?
It was the same person and the same post.
(But I had a different pseudonym back then.)
Tom wrote Robin Read didn't know what she had unleashed in creating and designing the message board. Doesn't this belong in the dog thread?
"you've caused me to laugh audibly.
Once for your above ""unleashed"" comment and once for your today's ""Bike Show Report"" toothpaste story - recommended reading for all who need a laugh!
"
While I'm sure there are things I can't see that are better, the message board is slower to load now on my computer and I'm not getting a consistent indication whether a thread has new postings which is rather annoying (some threads are not in bold, but I have found new postings within).
"...on ""new messages"" on the homepage or on the message board?

"Considering that the board has been developed adminstered by volunteers who have ""lives"" and day jobs, i think it is very good.

+1
I like the new look, I really like the little envelope icon.
Is there anyway to increase the font size on the front page on my browser? or is that set on the website end?
it is really user friendly, your efforts certainly paid off....
suggest that you click on view - then text size - then largest
"Tried posting with long form of ""Sat."" in the message, but it was rejected because the language filter picked up ""t+urd"" (can't write it out b/c this msg would be rejected). Hilarious."
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday?
"does this filter out the word ""turd?"" Are you sure you spelled it right, Joe?
"
"Saturday - I guess it works now. Before it was giving me an error message saying that ""turd"" was offensive. When I shortened it to Sat., it went through. C'mon, I can't make this stuff up!"
"Yes I know how you feel. The same thing happened to me with the word ""scrapes"" a few days ago. Now ""scrapes"" is no longer profane, thankfully."
