I've checked the ride library but don't know what I am looking for. Any search tips? Anyone have some good routes, about 50 miles per day?

Thanks in advance!

Also, thoughts on lodging?

berkshires by train and bike

I just returned from a 3 day trip (last wed - friday) from the berkshires and it was gorgeous. I took the harlem line of metro north to Wassaic, NY and then took the Harlem Valley Rail Trail (and sorted country roads as the trail is not completed)and worked my way to Housatonic, Mass. to visit a friend. Road around Stockbridge, Lee and Tyringham on Thursday. On Friday, I took rt. 41 from Housatonic all the way to Salisbury, Ct. and then rt. 44 to Millerton, NY and the rail trail back to Wassaic. You should get Rubel's bike map on Western Mass and the Berkshires. I forgot how gorgeous the Berkshires are! There are lots of B and B's and some motels, but didn't stay at them.

Claudette,
My wife is working up in the Berkshires for the next 4 weeks and i was planning going up there a few times.
I have some knowledge of the area and would love some company on the ride up or back, or a ride while there.
Let me know when you guys are hoping to do your weekend and if you want to hook up.

cheers

Ron

Herb, would love to ride with you!

Though I am going with some other folks who may determine how hard and how far we ride. Unsure of their levels. I will let you know.

Bike Rides in the Berkshires

"Hi Claudette - Buy the book Bike Rides in the Berkshires. I've seen it at Bike Renaissance and other local shops around here. Many of the rides are short and not for us, but it has some really good ones too, and it tells you how to combine them for longer rides. Tom and I ride up there often and we've done several rides from the book. One of our favorite loops is the ""Five Village Workout"". Have a good time if you go. The riding doesn't get much better, especially in foliage season."

berkshires rides

Check out www.roberts-1.com for Hudson biking section. There's a great ride on Mass side of the Berkies and several great loops on the NY side. Each one has clear cue sheets with many variations, directions for food, hill-grade indexes and maps. All the rides on this site are great.
