"There is as club ride listed on the front page of the NYCC web site being led by Jeff ""El Jefe"" Vogel. Will helmets be required on this ride as they are on all Club rides? I would think that only approved Club rides would be listed on the web site and in the rides section of the bulletin.
"
Helmets req'd on Jeff "El Jefe" Vogel's ride?
"In the words of Jesse Jackson, ""The question is moot."" I've been riding with Jeff all summer. Everyone wears a helmet."
"It's great to learn Jeff is wearing a helmet. I remember he used to to be so adamant about being ""required"" to wear a helmet on NYCC rides. Somehow, I guess it was okay for him to be required to wear then on CRCA rides. I used to worry about Jeff riding without a helmet. Anyways, I'm happy to learn he is wearing a helmet and supporting the club on this safety issue. Also great the club is requiring helmets be worn on all club rides and won't approve a club ride without that understanding."
On a scale of 0 to 10, this registers a 2 on the troll-o-meter.
"I'm ""curious"" as to why you felt the need to post this thread? I find it curious."
Why don't you email the ride leader? His email address is right there on the home page.
HELMETS NOT OPTIONAL. REQUIRED ON ALL CLUB RIDES
"1. Who enforces the ""Helmet Rule?""
2. What are the penalties for failure to wear a helmet on an NYCC ride?
3. Is the leader as well as the non-helmet wearing tripper penalized?
4. What about other participants in the ride? What, if any, responsibilities vis a vis helmet wearing do they have?
5. Is there an honor code involved?
6. What sanctions if a participant in an NYCC ride loses his or her helmet during the course of a ride? Are leaders required to carry a spare to cover such a situation?
Please amplify for the education, edification and elucidation of the membership of NYCC!"
> 2. What are the penalties for failure to wear a helmet on an NYCC ride?
offenders get their tires slashed, smackdown, etc.
it's an insurance thing...wait, weren't you club president in the past? weren't the rules tougher back then? ;)

"When I had more time I rode Jeff's ride when it was on Wednesday mornings. It was a listed club ride but did state ""no silly requirements."" Since the club has a helmet requirement, the ride continued but was not listed as a sanctioned NYCC ride.
The ride was fairly fast, esp coming back: 21-23++ Jeff was/had been CRCA's president and CRCA racers showed up.
I have not seen it listed, but Jeff does post a message about times, dates and new leaders for the ride, which now seems to be on Thursdays.
Whatever - it's a fine, fast ride and most people are fine too. Do it!! Jeff likes to keep the group together, so it seldom if ever gets crazy fast, but there are off the backs and off the fronts. Do it. I always wear my brain bucket, but have seen some riders not so cautious."
"There should be a ban on:
a. typing in all caps
b. using the word ""tripper""
"
Did you mean your post for ME?
Wow, for anyhone to poke at Jeff Vogel is just so uncool. I don't understand cycling culture, coming from swimming and running and belatedly cycling. What gives? Who would feel the need to take a jab at a cool guy leading a really successful ride? I just hope that this kind of stuff doesn't scare off all the cool people from the nycc, though it's turned me off to tell you the truth.
Karol
we're all geeks, just different levels of geekness. can't wait 'till he reads this thread...he's out of town this week.
Are you the Hogwich guy? Are you going to lead your ride this year? Cool is big and broad and nice is infinitely cool.
Karol
Is there a direct correlation between skill/speed to cockyness/arrogance?
what happened to -just enjoying the ride?
I ride to get away from politics...
Yah, I hear you!
I'm staying out of this thread.
It's amazing how much controversy I can generate without even being here.
"Do I know him?
And Todd, if this construction on the GWB keeps up, you might rename your series ""the Stairmaster ride.""
Namaste.
