Wait, so they have to injure or kill someone before they face a penalty? I guess the official recognition of the problem is a step in the right direction...

Better tell those who teach defensive driving about this

I took a six-hour course on defensive driving that the City government made me take (I work for Parks). When I asked why she didn't talk about driving deferentially around bikes she went ballistic and said that cyclists weave in and out of traffic, then stop in front of your car and lean on your hood. Can you imagine this? She said it in front of a class of 15 who were there in part to reduce points on their record and get cheaper car insurance. I complained to her company, sent a copy of the letter to TA and the LAB (the president of LAB wrote back and lauded me for doing it, but I never heard if they followed up with the company). I never mentioned it here because our Board just doesn't seem to care about such things.

our board cares...

...but judging from financial reports in the past year or so, it seems the checking/moneymarket account is highest priority. so much for non-profit...

My Time

"As President of the Club, I spend a great deal of time attending advocacy meetings and writing to government officials on cycling issues. It doesn't leave me much time to write self-serving messages to let you all know what the Club is doing. I do, however, take the time to post call to action messages whenever we need grass-roots lobbying. Does anyone read them? Does anyone take action?

Please don't whine and complain about ""what does the Club do?"" YOU all are the Club. It's up to you to take action as cyclists. It's also up to you to behave as cyclists in a manner that garners respect from the public and government officials.
