Anyone know if the South walkway is already or will be open this weekend? I have tried hard to find out but to no avail -- severe tendinitis in my arm won't appreciate another North walkway effort.
Thanks!
GW Bridge walkways
Southside will supposedly reopen in September.
I copied and pasted this from the panynj.com website:
Effective Monday, June 19, 2006 through Monday, September 11, 2006, the NORTH sidewalk will be open according to the following schedule:
Sorry, bad news. When the walkway closed, the notices said that it would not be re-opened until the fall.
Ride the PATH train either from the WTC or 33rd street (they both have elevator and handicap entrances) to the Jersey side. Then bike up via JFK Blvd East to Palisades. It's actually a nice ride with good views of the city, and a much better/safer route than River Rd all the way up from Hoboken.
I'm riding up Sunday and will be glad to lead the way. From the Hoboken PATH station there's only about 3 turns.
Hi Kay. I need to do the reverse this Sunday and go from the NJ side of the GWB to Jersey City. Can I take JFK Blvd all the way down? How do I find it from the GWB?
Thanks,
Betsy
I commute this everyday. From the GWB stairs, take a left, then (after the overpasses) take a right on Bruce Reynolds, Left (South) on Marsha Washington which turns into Palisades Ave. Take Palisades ave South about 4 miles(past Cliffside Park)to a left on Woodcliffe (just before a park and BP station) and this merges into Blvd East.
FYI, I tend to ride River Road more often in rush hours, because Blvd East tends have more buses making stops. That's the number one irritant!
I posted another thread yesterday(avoiding the GWB stairs)with a simple cuesheet from the Hoboken PATH to the GWB. Follow it in reverse, and you get Carl's recommended route. I ride this way on weekends all the time. Traffic is practically non-existant on weekend mornings, and not too bad on weekend afternoons. I'd avoid River Rd on weekend afternoons. Traffic is heavy and there is no shoulder much of the way. Use maps.google.com to plot your route from Hoboken to JC. If going to the Waterfront area, avoid Holland Tunnel traffic by taking Observer Hwy out of Hoboken, L on Marin, L on 18th. 18th becomes Washington Blvd. This takes you over the top of the tunnel traffic instead of thru it.
