So based on the random votes I settled on July 18, Alpe de Huez stage for the Blondies party..

This has been fun for the last few years. The club meeting is in the same spot the prior week but that is a flat stage....

Come one come all, bring your friends... best seats go to the people that plant in them first.

11th?

Thought it had already been set for the 11th. Does this mean they won't be showing the TdeF tomorrow night? Know someone who took the 11th off specifically for this.

The 11th is a club meeting plus viewing of a flat stage

The 11th is a club meeting plus viewing of a flat stage, the 18th is just a viewing party of the Alpe de Huez stage. No reason not to go to both..

Prime Time Coverage Starts at 8:00PM

8:00 the race comes on. IN prior years we have been sparse for a while then packed. Good thing cyclists are thin.

climb New York's Alpe de Huez

Whiteface has a very similar profile to Alpe de Huez even though it has only 2 switchbacks. The annual bike race is in June but this year there will be a race in September 17th: http://www.nysef.org/bikerace.htm

Support our state and climb to the sky.

And the descent is much faster than Alpe d'Huez...

I've never ridden to the top of Whiteface but I often ride the last few miles of the descent. It's straight and steep. Last year I reached 55 mph on this descent. Last week I only managed 50 mph because I was stuck behind a slow pickup truck. However, it was kind of fun passing the pickup on the left. The descent of Alpe d'Huez is much harder because of all the switch backs.
