I am thinking about riding from Brewster NY to a friends house in Sherman CT? Is there a safe route? I might also consider from NYC there?

"Try using Mapquest. You enter the starting and ending location, then change ""Advanced Options"" to ""Shortest Distance"" or (if there's a highway directly connecting the two points) ""Avoid Highways."" As long as you aren't starting from or going to a very congested area (like NYC), you're likely to get a safe route."

The Brewster, Pawling, Kent, Sherman, Brewster ride will take you there. If you follow it in reverse you go directly. But transcribing reverse routes is not as easy as one would think. Buy a map of Putnam County and one of Upper Fairfield County.
