Yep

"It really seems to me that someone, or some people, are out to get him.

Serves him right. Don't they have the death penalty in TX?

""In front of (former team mate) Frankie Andreu and his wife, who have testified under oath in Dallas, Armstrong said he had taken 'EPO, testosterone, growth hormones and cortisone',"" Le Monde added."

So Lance is single-handedly responsible for the death penalty in Texas? Wow... now that's power.

Actually

I mean they could use it on him or is that a bit too harsh?

Here we go again. Every year, a week before the tour. Lance, Lance, Lance. Dope, Dope, Dope.

If the alleagations are true, we are talking about doping that happened over 11 years ago.

Wasn't he world champ?

Exactly, if he was a cheat when he was world champ then, he was probably a cheat when he won the Tour for the 5th time. Strip him of all the titles and pass them down the line.

It could be like American Idol, vote for the rider that deserves the win in the 2002 tour. Since we are talking about LA we don't have to worry about striping other race titles from him. Its not like he rode more than two races a year anyway.

Regardless of any drugs he is an amazing athlete. The drugs might get you over the line first, but you have to qualify first.

Armstrong responds:
http://www.velonews.com/news/fea/10091.0.html

I don't know if Armstrong doped or not before 1996.

The Andreus don't benefit from this, so it does look bad for Lance.

But they made these statements a while ago. Tipical, a french paper prints them and accuses Lance of doping a week before the tour starts. The goal there is obvious: sell newspapers.

A he said/she said situation on a trial that vindicated Armstrong, is not enough to strip him of anything.

I'm a fan of Lance as much as the next guy, but I have to say if he did dope pre-cancer his credibility has gone down 3 notches. Not that I think we need to do yet another inquisition - we have a process for testing for doping and he passed it (somehow?).

the really amazing thing is...

"how many people still believe that Lance never doped at any time in his career (especially the early years). Every high end cyclist that I have spoken to has said that every European pro has doped. Yet Phil,Paul, Bob and the rest of the media continue to play Captain Renault and are ""shocked, shocked to find that [doping] is going on in here!"" The only difference is that the American public aren't in on the ""joke"". Meanwhile the professional cyclists themselves are still living in the good old mafia days of ""omerta"" where speaking out is ""death"" to their careers and friendships."

Amen, brother, on all counts. And FANTASTIC Casablanca reference. Cyberspace needs more packfills -- accurate AND witty? Almost unheard of.
