Does anyone know if there are any bike shops on the upper
west side that would like a 14 year old who is very interested in
cycling--to volunteer to work in the shop a few days a week
to help and to learn more about bikes? My son is keen on
cycling and hasn't much planned this summer.. closer to
home would be best so if you know of a bike shop that would
be both friendly and perhaps able to teach a little--thus allowing him
to learn more and also to help as a volunteer.
Thanks.

try NY Cyclist on 110th St

The owner, Landon Wickham, does a lot of community outreach and is involved in youth programs of various kinds. If you contact him he might be able to point you in the right direction.

It's a good shop too -- West 110th St between Frederick Douglass Blvd and Manhattan Ave.

I think the number is 212-864-4449.

It's not on the UWS, but . . .

You could also try Recycle a Bicycle. They have Queens, lower east side & DUMBO brooklyn locations.

volunteer

Lauren,

I fell in love with bicycles over 30 years ago by volunteering in a bike shop. I own a Cycling business on 64th St.
Please feel free to contact me at 212-706-0025 to discuss your son's summer plans.
