Does anyone have a cue sheet or bike directions from NYC to Albany? Any help is appreciated. Many thanks
Cue sheet/Directions
While it might not be the most scenic ride, rte. 9 goes all the way to Albany. From downtown NYC to Albany, it's one of the longest 'streets' in the world (at least according to Snapple... it was on a cap).

Fred Steinberg's Storm King, Indian Mountain route to Peekskill will get you a good ways up there. It is in the Ride Library under Upstate.

You can continue on to Buffalo if you wish.
Bike Route 9 is signed most of the way from Canada to NYC. The state-published map is free and quite helpful for those crucial spots that are missing signs or hard to navigate. Available by contacting the New York State Department of Transportation's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program at 518-457-8307 or [email protected].

I have the map, but I don't know what it's like to ride on Bike Route 9 to Albany. Does the road have a shoulder? Is the road narrow? Light or heavy traffic?
I realize there are probably good and bad sections, but, in general, is it OK or not?
Many thanks.
You've probably already ridden on the southern portion of BR9 on the way to Nyack, over Bear Mountain Bridge, etc. Conditions vary widely over the course of the route. I haven't done the whole thing but have ridden parts of BR9 from the Canadian border to NYC. It's perfectly fine, but if you're looking for a backroads experience, this is not your best bet--at least not in its entirety. Think of the Nyack route--yes you can ride on 9W (=BR9) the whole way, and if you're in a hurry or not feeling like navigating, that's what you would do, but if you're more adventurous, have more time, and want some variety, you'd go a different way, though you'd probably still find yourself on BR9 here and there.
