Is it club policy to run red lights, when possible?

I made her day!!

"An employee of the hospital practically fell over in surprise when our group pulled hard up to the corner of 169 and Fort Washington Ave, and stopped at the light.

She said ""I can't believe it! Thank you!!""

it's that easy. . . ."

Was that actually a serious question? Do you really think the club would openly promote something that rediculous?

surprises

I stopped at a red light and there was a cop car there. The cop shouted out the window that I was the first cyclist he'd ever seen stop at a red light. Can it be true that cyclists aren't even stopping when they see a cop?

Club Policy

The Club policy is that we should obey all traffic laws. That said, but being a realist, I would urge everyone to slow when approaching a red light and look for pedestrians. Please let pedestrians have the right of way and don't just blow through those lights.

My personal amusing moment came last weekend as I was going up Riverside Dr. The light at 104th was turning red and I spied a cop car at the intersection, so I came to a complete stop and waited. Just then another cyclist blew through the light without so much as slowing down. I glanced over at the cop to see if he would give chase, but he simply motioned me to proceed through the red light.

Yes Carol, safety first and don't dis the man in front of his face.

By paying attention to every element before you actually run a red light or stop sign, you should see if the law is present. If you are not causing confusion, danger to peds or vehicles and there is no presence of the law, you are like the tree that falls in the forest which nobody sees or hears. At this point it comes down to whether you are a true New Yorker. Would a real New Yorker on foot actually wait to cross a street at a red light if there was no traffic at the intersection?

code phrase

"""Blue light"" is what I sometimes say to indicate if I'm stopping at a red light where there's a cop.

If I shoot someone in the forest and no one ever finds out, is it a crime?

If I wait at a traffic light and there are no cars or peds, am I an idiot?

today i was heading south on riverside drive at around 98 street i stopped for a red light, since i couldn't see if the crosswalk was clear, a cyclist passed me with exaggerated head shaking as if i had done a horrible and stupid thing. i see way to many cyclist blowing the reds on riverside drive to the disdain of the peds waiting for the red to cross.

Yes

It would be a crime (an unsolved one - until now!) to shoot someone in a forest even if noone knew.

And yes, Hank, you would be an idiot if you waited at a light with no cars and pedestrians, at least in New York City. For even if your proclivity is to wait for the green, when in Rome...
