Anyone have any idea how tight I am supposed to clamp the bike onto the trainer? I am concerned I have been tightening it too tight (with safety in mind) and possibly risking demage to the frame or hub. When I try to unclamp it, its rather tough to do.

Help anyone?

Anyone? Desperate here. Almost don't want to use the trainer now.

1) Call the company's support line

2) Tighten the skewer real hard (at worst, you'll break the skewer) but leave some space between the stay and the skewer to insert a tube (old seat tube?) over the skewer lever to use as a fulcrum.

If I understand you, you are referring to the skewer on the bike. I am ok w. that part. It is the tightening of the trainer clamp I am concerned about.

The instruction manual makes no reference as to how tight I should set the screw on the trainer. Could I damage the hub or frame if too tight?

Separately, when I stand on the bike, I sense I am putting a lot of stress on the frame, as the back wheel is locked in, but I am torquing the bike with my feet and arms.

Call the company. Ask them for a torque setting.

Then, beg or borrow a torque wrench.

Back off drum roller. Engage the clamp in LOCKED position. Place wheel (skewer) in position against clamp. Turn adjusting screw until it sits up against otherside of wheel (skewer). Then tighten lock ring on adjusting screw. Thats it.
Tightening enough so there is no lateral (side to side) play between wheel and adjusting screw on one side and clamp in locked position on other side. Tighten in much the same way you tighten a skewer on a regular wheel; by hand and not excessive.
It sounds as though where you had it was to tight.
