Morning laps in Central Park. 6:00 AM at Tavern on the Green. This is not a Club ride, not a SIG ride, not my ride, no leaders, just cyclists who gather to go for a ride. Sometimes I know some of the people who show up, sometimes I don't. It doesn't matter if I do. It’s usually a pretty fast 3 laps, sometimes real fast.
The rhythm of the rides is such that people meet most often on Tues and Thurs, 6:00 AM. There seems to be people meeting there every day, however. By 6:02 AM, the ride is gone. I'll be there tomorrow. All have always been welcome. You would be to. It doesn't matter if you know people on the ride or not.

A.M. Laps

Christy,
I've been waiting for this post, I'll be there again, when I can.

I assume you don't mind dropping people (and I don't mind being dropped, 'cause I know I will be), but just for my reference, how fast is 'pretty fast'?

17, 18 minute laps thus far. They get faster as the weather warms and conditioning improves.

Hmm, ok. At this point I suspect I'd need a car to get around the park that fast, but I just might show up one of these days. My goal will be to not get lapped ;)

Slow Pokes

There's no reason a bunch of 20 minute lappers can't meet at the same place same time. I plan to start doing so. At a 20 minute pace to their 17 minute pace they wouldn't pass us till the 6th lap.

laps in the morning

Come join a fellow B rider! I try to meet at the Tavern on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 6:00 am.

It gives me a chance to look at all my fast friends in the face for once....although the side I'm usually looking at ain't so bad either! ;)

I usually give a 6 minute grace period if I know you are coming. drop an email to KatieLArch31 at hotmail.com (no spaces and use the @ sign) and i'll make sure to give you a few if you're running late

see you Friday?

GREAT IDEA!

Great idea Michael!
It's an absolutely beautiful time of year in Central Park. The crocus on the North Hill are popping, the tulip tress - or are those magnolias? - just over the rise of Cat's Paw hill are about to explode . Havn't seen the dogwoods yet, but I know they are coming. There's that soft springtime green showing up all over the place. You're absolutely right, Michael, there's no reason anyone on a bicycle - no matter what the pace - can't/shouldn't get together, gather and enjoy a wonderful morning ride. It has never phased me whether I know the people on the ride or not. And, for the most part, they don't seem to mind a new face either. Making new friends is always fun.
Hey, Michael, would you mind if I tagged along with your group?

No Problem at all

Sure you can join the, lazy, perhaps slightly overweight, still out of shape, or just unmotivated at that early hour 20 minute lap group... but wasn't this your thread and didn't you mention being a 17/18 minute pace guy??

End of last season, I was about a B18. This start of season - - quien sabe??

Am also looking for riding partners for during daytime closing to car hours.
