"Well, I just wanted to thank all the leaders for helping me out on Saturday morning on the ""A"" Sig Classic ride. Every bit of advice helped. I did get ""Officially Dropped"" as I'm not an experienced cyclist.

I've been a competitive swimmer and marathoner for years....Just thought my cycling would have improved with all the many hours I've spun on the wind trainer. Uhhh...Just thought I'd be able to hang with the ""A"" Sig's. Guess I learned my lesson!!

Am not giving up...Will try next week with the ""B"" group!!

Quotes to remind us why we bike

"Alicia- A-SIG, B-SIG, C-SIG, A Classic...whatever. Just ride and have fun.......

""Winning is about heart, not just legs. It's got to be in the right place.” --Lance Armstrong

“Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.” --Lance Armstrong

""It never gets easier, you just go faster."" -- Greg LeMond

""The best rides are the ones where you bite off much more than you can chew--and live through it.""--Doug Bradbury

""I guess I just have bigger ovaries."" -- Missy Giove

""There was a second supremely sweet moment of victory. As I made my way through the finish area, I passed the Cofidis team. Assorted members of the organization stood around, the men who I felt had left me for dead in a hospital room. ""That was for you,"" I said as I moved past them."" - Lance Armstrong after winning the opening time trial and becoming the leader of the 1999 Tour de France

Why do you assume that you need to downgrade? And to the B-SIG? It's only the second ride! I got dropped more than once on the A-SIG, but I didn't let that deter me. The only way you're going to improve is going to keep pushing yourself. Did one of the leaders tell you to do that? If they did, shame on them.

Oh, that hurt!

"""Why do you assume that you need to downgrade? And to the B-SIG?""

Umm, is there something wrong with the B-Sig that you had to make your statement with such apparent lack of respect for us ""lowly"" riders? Were you on the ride with her to have any idea of her level? Unless you were, I suggest that you keep your opinions to yourself. The difference between a B18 and A Classic is what, 3 or 4 mph on the flats? Maybe it's better for her to join a group that she can keep up with on the hills or rollers better. She herself said she wasn't an ""experienced cyclist"". Maybe she will have more fun with the B-Sig!! We aren't that bad."

Sigh. I was not trying to insult B riders or their SIG. The point I was making was why would she take herself down two notches, bypassing the A-19? Why does getting dropped once (or twice or three times, even) mean that she isn't an A rider? Getting dropped is part of the initiation. Sure, it's no fun, but it shows what you need to work on (e.g., I would get dropped on shallow descents, as well as climbs). Yes, you get experience doing any sort of riding; however, what kind of riding you do, and who you ride with, should be about being with those who are a little stronger, a little more skilled than you, so you can learn from them. It shouldn't be about underestimating your abilities.

a few more good biking quotes

"""You get experience doing any sort of riding; however, what kind of riding you do, and who you ride with, should be about being with those who are a little stronger, a little more skilled than you, so you can learn from them. It shouldn't be about underestimating your abilities."" -- Fendergal (who enjoys ALL SIGs)

""This is not Disneyland, or Hollywood. I'll give you an example: I've read that I flew up the hills and mountains of France. But you don't fly up a hill. You struggle slowly and painfully up a hill, and maybe, if you work very hard, you get to the top ahead of everybody else."" - Lance Armstrong
