You know you are a cyclist when

... when you'll only date someone who can beat you up a hill.
When T-Mobile must be your cell phone provider.
When you had to restrain yourself from embracing your mailman in July 2004.
When your 5-year-old asks you what Lance has been up to lately.

You swerve to avoid a pile-up...

...and pull up the steering wheel to bunnyhop the car onto the sidewalk.

you swerve your car to avoid

a metal plate that you come upon suddenly in the road, reacting to it that way only because you are a cyclist, and accidentally cut off a police car (mea culpa). Fortunately, the policeman was only a bit startled and only hit his siren for a moment, reflexively, and then we went on our respective ways.

You know you're a cyclist...

"when you're driving and you call out ""slowing"" to your passenger;

when you're walking down the street and glance at where your eyeglass mirror should be to see what's behind you;

when you see a bike messenger at an intersection and call out, ""nice trackstand;""

when you're walking with a group of friends and you start to point down at a hole in the sidewalk"

When you're walking on the sidewalk, a nearby car door flings open, and you flinch.

"...when your idea of a fun vacation involves riding 75-150 miles a day in the mountains.

An old rec.bicycles newsgroup post: Are you a REAL bicyclist?"

You know you're really a Manhattan cyclist when...

After a big snowstorm, you suddenly love the fact that cars are allowed in Central Park, since it means that the city will certainly plow the Loop Drive soon and that car traffic will burn off any remaining snow and ice.
