Just a reminder that anyone interested in participating in the STS-B17 is encouraged to attend this Saturday's (2/11) B-SIG Preview/Group Training Ride led by Rick, Linda, & Steve.
In addition to being a great group ride refresher, it will be a chance to meet some of the other participants, suggest routes for the program, and get out and get some pre-pre-season miles.
More information on the STS can be found at:
http://www.nycc.org/rides_sts_b.shtml
If you're interested in participating, please send Cyna or I an email -- we'll be keeping a list to get out pertinent information, solicit co-leaders when necessary, and email cue sheets so you can print out and bring your own.

When Linda Wintner, Steve Chabra, and I led this kind of ride last month, we had a large group of enthusiastic and quick learning newer riders (plus a few other experienced Club leaders). So far the long term weather report for this Saturday looks much better than it did as of a few days ago. Whether you are planning to take the B SIG, do the B STS, or learn more about being a better and safer cyclist, come along.
...i'd like to tag along. :)

Don-You're more than welcome to join us, but, as we say to any experienced riders who want to come on this kind of ride, Club members who want to join us should be aware that the ride will be conducted as an introduction to the SIG, not as a regular Club ride. For more info, check the complete ride listing. As to your subject line, it's only to Scarsdale, so it won't be too hilly (there are 4 not too steep hills on the way out-Midland by the Optimo store, Stratton to Weaver, Mamaroneck Road, and Heathcote), and Bennett on the way home. Hope to see you Saturday.
Hello Rick,
Is it a pre-pre STS or SIG???
John
"John-I think that your question may be asked in jest ("" pre-pre""), but to answer it our ride is a pre-SIG instructional ride, and for those who cannot commit to the B SIG. Marci asked whether people interested in doing the B STS could join us, to which we said ""sure"". See the Bulletin and weekly e-mail for more details about this ride, which, as I implied, was very successful last month. You too can join us. Regards, Rick"
Rather than organizing our own pre-STS training ride, Cyna and I are encouraging all STS participants to attend this (previously scheduled) ride.
It's that simple... SIGgies, STSers, and those who cannot do either, all welcome. Get on your bike, get a skills refresher, have some fun!
...i'll be off the back, i'm sure, but i'll try to hang on. :) if i survive i might try the b-sig.

as of this afternoon's forecast, it looks as though the storm will roll in late tomorrow afternoon, so we are planning to ride tomorrow.
we will post a final go/no-go tomorrow morning by 7:45 after a last look at the forecast. you can also call the leaders tomorrow morning after 8:00.
please bring:
- your metro north bike pass and a metrocard
- plenty of water and pocket food, as there is no water or food available except at the lunch stop.
please be prepared for changes to the route or to bail if the weather takes a turn for the worse while we are on the road.
we will meet at 9:30 at the boathouse. see you then.

Don, not to worry, I have an extra Metro North card.
...after i cleaned my bike from last weekend's ride, the last thing i want is to get stuck in snow (i live in queens). looks like the snow is not yet at the city as of 3:15pm. bummer. oh well, i did upper-body at the gym and in the morning i'll hit the rollers. hope you guys had a good ride.
don
Actually for any of you that may need to call earlier in order to find out whether you need to get ready so that you can arrive on time (such as you suburbanites who live outside of Manhattan), you can call Linda or me tomorrow morning (besides the phone numbers in the ride listing, my cell is 917-232-2776), but no earlier than 7:30 A.M.
at 7:45, the forecast is still calling for the storm to arrive late in the afternoon -- so the ride is on.
please bring:
- your metro north bike pass and a metrocard
- plenty of water and pocket food, as there is no water or food available except at the lunch stop.
please be prepared for changes to the route or to bail just in case the weather takes a turn for the worse while we are on the road.
we will meet at 9:30 at the boathouse. see you then.
looks like snow in late afternoon...will you guys post in the morning if the ride is on/off?
thanks,
bfd
Snow should arrive late... but it will be about 35 degrees. Guess I'm spinning (with a straight back, mostly seated climbs)
...i have plenty of insulation. :) i'm good down to 35 degrees.
don
here's hoping the weather will cooperate.
Weather sounds mighty iffy for tomorrow. Is there a reschedule date if its cancelled?
"unfortunately, there is no alternate date.
also, (i'm not sure we made this clear enough), this not an sts or sig ride, but a b-sig ""prologue"" and training ride. so if you miss it (or if we cancel), you can still participate in marci’s and cyna’s b-sts or (provided you are registered) the b-sig ... attending this ride is not a prerequisite for either.

b-sig page: http://www.nycc.org/rides_sig_b.shtml
we are still hopeful that the storm will come late in the day ... check back for the final decision."
Thanks Steve, Rick & Linda for another great ride.
Even though I trained it back, the ride out was worth it.
Joe
thanks, joe, and to you and all the other siggies who came along, you all did a great job on our last hurrah before winter hit ... we made it back to 165 & riverside just as the flurries started. we will see you all on march 4 if not hopefully before.
