Don, dreaming of hills in Winter?

The Catskills are not mountains. Rather, they are an erroded plateau. But Platte Cove Road does have teeth. It climbs 1111 feet in 1.84 miles, giving it an average grade of 11.4%. But it is a series of steps so the risers are steeper.
However, it was repaved last year and it is beautiful.

Booth has a dip so the hillclimb stat is not reflective of its steeper grade.

Actually...

I calculated Platte Clove before we rode it back last summer and I thought it came out steeper. Picking out the start/ finish elevations on maps is an art, and I am a hank.

But you know, the difference between hill and hell is one letter.

As for losing weight. I want to buy a lighter bike but it is a sure way to bring on rain on Saturdays. Look at Chirsty; new CF Merckx/ rain tomorrow.

Nah

Sorry, Hank. You can't blame Christy. I'm the cause of the rain tomorrow. Every time I'm listed to lead a ride, it rains. Tomorrow will be the fourth consecutive time!

Burning it Off

Actually you will be able to generate a higher average power and burn more calories by riding at a constant moderately hard pace over totally flat terrain.

i spend an hour or so every other day on rollers...

...spinnig to hooberstank, nickelback, etc. at a steady 160-165bpm. no resistance though - i'll get plenty of that on saturday. ;)

Platte Clove Rd.

"Don, when you climb Platte Clove again, we can call you ""Devil's Kitchen Fats."" In the meantime, how about ""Hell's Kitchen Fats""? Hell's Kitchen doesn't have any hills, and I'd guess that it has a few pool halls. ;-)"

Kain Rd. Again

I did the Greenwood Lake Century from our ride listings which includes the Kain rd climb. Not the biggest altitude gain, 580' but I felt the 15% grade.
If anyone is interested, I would love to do the ride again in 4 to 6 weeks...
