I'm considering leading a rain ride on Saturday around 11am if other rides are rained out. It will probably be the last really warm day of the winter (expected high of 55) but lots of rain.
So why not make use of all that stuff you got for the holidays (and bought for yourself)? If you're wearing the right gear, riding in the rain can be lots of fun, and you have the satisfaction of knowing you're outdoors enjoying the day while the rest of the world is cooped up inside!
Distance and pace will be based on the level of people on the ride. Fixed gear, mountain bikes, beater bikes, and even nice road bikes welcome.
If I can get a small group of brave souls together, I'm planning on leaving from the Boathouse at 11am for a 2-3 hour ride; no/minimal breaks.
If you think you have what it takes and want to take the rain ride challange, please respond to this post.
Rain Ride Saturday?
interested in riding on sat even in the rain. 11am boathouse, ok?
i'd be up for a rain ride tomorrow. 11am is a good time, peirmont/nyack, no stop preferable. i'll check the board in the AM. thanks, John
Awesome; brave souls ready to ride! I will post a message tomorrow morning about the start time and place but assume it will be 11am at the Central Park Boathouse. Obviously, due to rain, we can't wait long for people to show up. Rain riding is fun!!
How many miles and where do you expect to go on this ride? Thanks.
distance will be determined by the group - I think we'll keep the ride relatively short - about 35 miles or so. Since I'll be on my fixed gear, the route won't include too many hills. How about riding through Manhattan, over the Brooklyn Bridge, back through Queens, back over the 59th Street Bridge? Any other ideas will be considered. Meet at 11am at the Boathouse.
I'll be at the Boathouse at 11am for the Rain Ride. An easy spin to Piermont sounds great (cancel my last thread about Brooklyn/Queens - Piermont sounds better.
If you get the chance, please confirm that you'll show up so that I don't wait in the rain for nothing. Thanks.
I was on my way to the boathouse when I got a flat just inside the park. Embarrassed to say I didn't bring spare tubes so I ended up walking back home :(. Sorry I couldn't join you, hope you had a good ride.
Hector, sorry to hear about the flat. We had a great ride up to Piermont and only had rain on the way home. I think we all agreed it was great being out on the bike knowing that mostly everyone else was stuck indoors.
I will lead more rain rides when conditions are appropriate so please join us then.
"thanks for getting me out on the bike today. i had a beautiful ride up to alpine station and back.
about i/2 mile down from station the road did wash out. they have ""fixed"" it with a 20 yard gravel and dirt single car lane which is easy enough for a bike. i sure would not take a car over this vertiginous gap."
