"I just received Overcoming in the mail last night.

The movie is a behind the scenes look at CSC and the Tour de France in 2004.

If you are not interested in cycling, the movie would be similiar to watching paint dry. I think this movie is geared towards cycling fanatics.

If you are into racing, the Tour and the psychology of riding, then the movie is really really interesting.

Thanks for the update

Do you have any idea if it will be shown in IMAX theaters? I recall that was the plan when it was going to feature Tyler Hamilton. Excited by the original news, then with his drug testing problem, the subsequent re-editing and waiting for it sometime to hit production, it fell off the proverbial radar screen (mine at least).

2003 Tour

"I thought that Tyler was on Phonak in 2004 so I did some searching.

According to google searching....

The IMAX movie was from the 2003 TDF. It was called Brainpower. It was not about cycling, but more about the brain. No idea what happened to it.

Overcoming was made by a Danish film company. Tyler was not on CSC in 2004, but on Phonak.

I am still waiting to find out if ""The Quest"" was ever released."

Mulligan Movie?

You are correct; I overlooked one important detail in your post, the year in question is 2004. Sorry for the confusion; I jumped the gun. It is a bit peculiar that it's the same team, same tour, in successive years.

"I had the movie, ""The Quest"" on order for a while and it never arrived.

Edit: I just found the movie listed on Excel Sports. I will order it from them. It looks like it was finally released on November 18th."

Wired to Win: Surviving the Tour de France

"The Tyler Hamilton IMAX film you are referring to is called ""Wired to Win: Surviving the Tour de France"". It is playing at the IMAX theater at the Boston Museum of Science.

Wired to Win: Surviving the Tour de France

Chugging steadily uphill, the rider threads his racing cycle through the cheering mass of spectators lining the roadway. Ahead of him, a mountain rises—green and terribly far away, the road vanishing into it. Yet the rider powers on, unaffected by the crowd, unflagging in the face of what must be an agonizing climb. How does he do it?

That's the question Wired to Win: Surviving the Tour de France aims to answer. The Tour is known as the most grueling competition in sports, and it is a dramatic example of how practice and repetition can ""wire"" our brains to excel at complex, demanding tasks. The three-week, 21-stage race covers roughly 2,000 miles (approximately the distance from London to Cairo) and crosses two mountain ranges that even cars struggle to climb. Pain and exhaustion are de rigueur; horrific falls and injuries are commonplace. And inside every rider striving for the yellow jersey is a complex physical system composed of bones, muscles, neurons, and other tissues—all connected to, and powered by, the brain. Following the 2003 Tour de France, Wired to Win explores the capabilities of this amazing organ, integrating IMAX® technology, cutting-edge computer and medical imagery, and real-life racing drama to show how the brain responds to stimuli—and adapts for success as we learn, train, and practice.

Wired to Win

"Note that Tyler Hamilton's name isn't mentioned once. The film actually features Baden Cook (winner of the green jersey) and Jimmy Casper (twice Lanterne Rouge) of Francaise des Jeux. There was a recent thread about this film on rec.bicycles.racing.

At the film's website, there's mention of NYCC: http://www.wiredtowinthemovie.com/profile_stefijackenthal.html.

Berkshire Cycling Association sent this out, though the only thing I see on the MOS site is Wired to Win -

Tyler Hamilton’s IMAX opener
The year that Tyler Hamilton rode the Tour de France with a broken collarbone, an IMAX crew was filming a documentary on pain and suffering, it’s effects on the brain and pain tolerance levels of different people. Tyler proved to be an excellent candidate that year, and since the news of the movie project, many cyclists have been eagerly anticipating the release of this film. “Brainpower” opens on December 9th and will run through the Holidays at the Science museum.
