Tomorrow's forecast is for snow in the AM and rain in the PM. My concern with this ride is icy roads Saturday morning. If such is the case, I will forgo riding. Check back here Friday night or Saturday morning (~after 7:30AM) for the final lowdown.

If the ride is a go, which I hope it is, expect to ride nonstop to lunch (mileage in the low 20s), with a total mileage round trip of about 45 from the NJ side of the GW Bridge.

The lunch stop will be more like a quick snack stop of inconspicuous consumption - as I'm sure you've all eaten their products from one time or another, and unknowingly to you. You'll have to join me tomorrow to learn of this top secret Rockland establishment.

Stay tuned...

::: RIDE CANCELED :::

While out driving today on local roads, I was not encouraged with what I had seen condition wise for road cycling tomorrow. The roads were very wet and slushy in the areas driven over by cars and snow coverage remained along and extending past its shoulders. The suburbs north of the city received more snow. Add to all or any combination of those unfavorable conditions, the potential for some ice exposure on tomorrow morning's local roads, I figure the wise thing to do is to cancel the ride.

Sunday consideration

Ron, perhaps it's poor form or etiquette, as much as I would like to, I'm hesistant to do so for fear of cannibalizing, detracting from, competing with..... or just plainly fill in your MadLib word here: _______ to Todd's Sunday ride. If I'm way off base/others think otherwise, and have expressed interest in this ride, please tell me so here or offline. I'll give it a go. If Hogwich guy wants a break from a Nyack destination and colead Sunday, I'm good to go with that as well. The more the merrier....

don't sweat it

i appreciate the thought, but you really don't have to worry about it. even though i'm open to a new route and destination, i still need to leave my usual early time (8:30).

it's probably safer to keep the groups small in these sloppy conditions anyway. you should re-schedule your ride for tomorrow and grab all the folks who want a later start, and i'll grab the folks who prefer the early bird special.

are we on for Sunday or not?

So, are we on for Sunday or not? Should I be eating pasta for dinner? Smile. Serge

I understand your hesitation. However.....

Your ride would still win out for me because of the difference in your posted start time. Much as I enjoyed doing quite a few of Todd's rides last year, I will likely be missing them all this year unless he decides to stay in bed a little longer! Your hour later start time makes your ride a much more attractive proposition in my sleep starved perception.
Any ride going north on Sunday will likely be predicated on how warm tomorrow is, and whether any appreciable amount of melting takes place. From the news footage I saw of Nanuet & other Rockland locals, it appeared that they got about 6 inches of snow. And it didn't seem to just disappear the way it did in much of Manhattan. That may be too much to melt before allowing us a reasonable amount of road to ourselves without jousting extensively with the motorists. I'll watch for posts from both yourself and that hogwich fella tomorrow to get an idea of whether either of you think it is worth a shot.

I'll take a raincheck

Or more like a snowcheck and I'll relist it sometime next month.

Like Todd, Rick and others, I was hoping someone would chime in about road conditions. I checked the Rockland County bike club's website; judging from their message board posting activity, it looks like they are hibernating this winter or have the good fortune to be vacationing somewhere warm (presumably like Jay J is doing right now).

Seriously though, the only information I have to go on is my own inference. The less trafficed roads by me did not improve much - still snow encroaching past the curbs and shoulders with patches of ice remaining. I reckon there's more of such upstate in Rockland.

I'd think a ride to Nyack on busier traffic, more sunlight exposed roads like 9W should have more favorable conditions.

Is this ride happening on Sunday?

Could you please give a definitive answer about the status of this ride? Is it happening tomorrow (12/11) or not?

peter's ride is off / hogwich is on.

peter stated already that his ride for saturday is canceled and will not be rescheduled for tomorrow.

however, there will be a ride leaving at 8:30 on the jersey side of the gwb going to nyack. that would be my ride, the hogwich ride.
