Saturday is going to be cold. One idea I have is to do the Hudson River trails all the way to Bear Mountain, but this does encounter some gravel and some rocky sections near Liberty Cove.
Who is riding? So far we have 4 yes, all with mountain-fatter tire road bikes. Not that this can't be done on 20C tires, which I have done...
This will shorter the ride by about 15 miles, but on your alternate bike each mile will be a bit harder and far more interesting. Time permitting, we can do South Mountain Pass--Albany Post Road at the end...
Please respond, so we can decide by 8 PM tomorrow.
Saturday's A23/21 Ride
"would this be a ""pleasant"" experience on 25mm tires?"
What do you consider unpleasant? Actually, we will be doing a road ride as two will be participating who don't have off-road bikes.
The whole route is about 65 miles, with a brief stop around mile 40 if required.

"The Liberty Cove that I know is in Jersey City, just north of Liberty State Park."
John,
I would enjoy doing this ride, was actually planning on it. I only have 23 tires and I have a true dislike of hardpack. Would this be a problem? I know my way around up there so is this only an issue once we reach Bear Mountain (which should basically be at the end of the ride). I can certainly ride from Bear Mountain to Beacon or Cold Spring on my own.
34 at 9:00 AM, which assures us temperatures will be above freezing when we reach the route's northern part. The finalized route is 67 miles to Garrison, with a brief stop at mile 44, if required.
