Does my post show 4:19PM? It was actually posted at 7:49PM. I realize there are far more pressing issues in the world, but I just thought I'd ask.
Why are messages' posted times 3.5 hours early?
I can't account for the three and a half hour discrepancy, but the three hours difference is, I believe, because the server is in California, or somewhere on the west coast. But I'm only guessing.
"the FAQ answer is:
""The date and time the forum's threads and messages created are that of the web server. Local time zones of its respective participants are ignored to maintain a uniform semblance within the forum.""
The first sentence kind of explains why the time is 3.5 hours early. (what's up with that extra 1/2 hour?) But the second sentence does not explain why it has to be that way. This is a NY club, not a national club, ie. 99% of the posts are made on NY time. My question is why can't we adjust all the posts to +3.5 hours the server so as to make it NY time?

One for total distance and one for point to point on a cue sheet.
the sigma sport bc 1600 has a mileage counter that can be reset to zero at any time by pressing a button once. it is great for point-to-point on a cue sheet: press the button at each turn and it will count up from zero.
also, you can preset the counter to any mileage and have it count down to zero (though the process of setting the mileage is a bit convoluted).
trip mileage and total mileage are not affected by this separate counter.
you can see how it works by downloading the manual from http://www.sigmasport.com.
"We rent space form a firm that happens to have our website residing on a server, with many other renters present, with a time -3 hours. Tomorrow they may decide to move us to one located in Guam or Chicago. Unlike renting apartments, with servers one doesn't choose where it's located, nor does one generally care (unless its for disaster recovery which does not apply to us.)
If we used each individual's computer clock, well you'd see how that would be problematic. The original poster's clock is off by a half hour or so from the ""official"" time whatever that may be. Conceivably, I could be replying to his post before his ever happens. Then there's remembering daylight savings observance, traveling club members and folks who have computer's with faster clock speeds ;-)
The bottom line is the software works with all of the messages ordered by using one watch - that of the web server. Or more to the point, if you were reading this message board from say San Diego the time would be of little bother as you would be too busy riding your bike to notice.

Not that I can follow all this parsing very well, but I'm not sure Occam's razor (also spelled Ockham's razor and named for the 13th C. English philosopher, William of Occam)actually applies here. Occam's razor states between two explanations, the one that makes fewer assumptions is the more plausible one; said another way, the simplest explanation for a phenomenon is more likely the truer one.
You are correct. Thanks. Typeo (look at the keyboard). I intended to spell it with the Special KTM
