1. we're back to the 8:30 am start time on the jersey side of the gwb.

2. we'll most likely head north up little tor before looping back into the runcible.

3. it'll finally be cold enough to actually eat a hogwich, which is much tastier when the temps get low.

4. should still be back between 12:30 and 1:00.

5. 18-20 mph on the flats and much, much slower on the uphills.

What is a hogwich?

Forgive my ignorance, but what actually goes into a hogwich?

hogwiches

depends on what kind of hogwich you fancy. i prefer the egg, sausage, cheese on a croissant.

last week steve got the egg, bacon, cheese on a biscuit, i think.

they're all good.

I think I would like to come along just to check out these Hogwiches. Are D riders welcome? If not I can always drive there and meet ..

So it's anything hog

So I take it any combination works, provided it involves pig. Sounds pretty good. Straight bacon and egg always worked for me as a sandwich, with the yolk runny.

pig not required

"...there are several variations sans meat.

but actually, today we learned the real meaning behind the ""hogwich"", thanks to jim. the ""hog"" refers to a bike, as in motorcycle. hence, all the ""hogwiches"" have names that correspond to various motorcycle (harley's, i think) names. my favorite is called the ""evo"". other names include ""fatboy"", ""slider"", and ""superslider"".

this makes sense because the owner of the runcible spoon, frank, looks like one of those harley dudes. we like him because he runs an establishment that is so incredibly accomodating to cyclists. and i don't think it's only because it's good for business. my bet is that there's a lot of political pressure in nyack to not be so accomodating to us.

Sunday Hogwich ride

Dear all,

I am still trying to figure out this cyclist's world in NY metro area. I posted few weeks ago in a diferent thread regarding weight, watts...and I questioned them how they are planning to loose 20 pounds riding a bike when everyone here seems to be riding because they are going to the next food shop!!

I guess you all have different level/interest of involvement. And I respect that. It ammuses me when I see at Rumsible spoon in Nyack that mostly overweight riders clad in aerodynamic gear endulging in consuming calories (I guess justifying their ride from NYC, but not realizing that they are gaining back and more of what they just lost riding)....Hey, it just ammuses me.

I don't like your kind

Hi Nellie,

I respect your opinion. Just try that in return instead of being dogmatic. You wil learn something someday.

Hog guy, same message for you. Try to respect other opinions. I can now understand more why different people ride bike. I now unerstand that everyone has their own level of goals, loose weight or ride better or just have fun. It was my dogmatic view that everyone rides to be fit. But I now knoew better.

No hard feelings.....

"I agree with you and the amount of food eaten at the rest stop, but let's look at what I see.

a) True there are some riders who are Heavy in tight clothes, but they can ride 50-100 miles when many people can't go 50-100 steps without a break.

b) Who ever said riding was the best way to lose weight?

c) I lost 80 or so pounds due to the simple fact that I ate less, ate better and got my fat belly up out of the chair and that was before I got on a bike a year and a half ago. I have kept the weight off for 3 plus years and I do not eat at the ""Spoon"". I bring my energy food and have my Coffee. But, that is how I stay the course.

I gotta agreee with the sight both you and I find with many groups of cyclists. They come in all shapes and sizes and age groups.
The goal of most is to ride better, be healthier and have fun.

You want to lose weight, simply eat better. No diet, no pills, just the facts Jack.

If you are heavy and want to ride better? Start with the weight of the belly not the bike.

Just my opinion
