Several members are discussing the possibility of a Memorial Day Weekend trip to Skyline Drive, Va. The plan would be to drive to Big Meadow on Friday, then ride from Big Meadow to Front Royal and back on Saturday, then ride from Big Meadow to Waynesboro and back on Sunday. Both days would entail a bit over 100 miles of riding. This is a perfect time of the year to visit Shenandoah National Park, as temperatures are moderate, humidity still low enough to fully enjoy the mountain vistas and many flowering trees and shrubs are in bloom. Ideas/comments welcome.

VA for Mem. Day holiday
Would be nice to have this lovely destination and locale, plus some new vistas/routes.
Possibly doing some form of group transportation might be feasible, as well?

Several others have expressed interest in this trip. At least two have cars, with the idea to leverage transportation alternatives (pun intended) across all parties. More and more, I am liking this trip. The intent, to minimize sag difficulties, is to drive to Big Meadow on Friday, then on Saturday and Sunday do two out and bike rides from Big Meadow. Saturday to Front Royal and Sunday to Waynesboro. Both, in their entirety are challenging rides but the other advantage of this approach is that one would not have to ride all the way to each end. In addition, no cue sheets are required! I will probably be making my reservation soon, as I know for certain I am going.

Don't know if they still do it, but Baltimore bike club used to do a trip the weekend after Labor Day weekend, (to avoid traffic), from Front Royal to Waynesboro on day one and the reverse on day two.
It was a great trip– I did it twice. From what I was told, the road is too crowded with motor traffic on Holiday weekends. You might want to check with the Baltimore bike club about reccommended times to do it.
