BBG management has given permission for bikes to be admitted on Thursday (through the side gate) AND the kitchen should stay open till 10:00 PM.

Fat tires, front/rear lighting and fenders are de riguer.

"fun ride.
Thanks for the pizza Neile. It would seem we are cursed for food whenever we go there. Tonight the cook was ""sick"" and went home early.

10/20 UAR wrapup

"Four riders; Ron, Chris and Josh and plus myself. ( John Z. was out of town.)

Started at Tekserve, headed down to and over the Willamsburg Bridge, then west by northwest along Grand/Metropolitan Aves.

The goal was to do a wide, counter clockwise 20+ mile loop through Brooklyn/Queens -- improv-ing side streets off the main arteries -- and wind up at BBG before the kitchen closed at 9:00 PM.

We more or less succeeded, but I drew loop too shallow and we finished at BBG with only sixteen miles.

Note: We came across a festively lit middle east shopping center at Broadway & Roosevelt that definitely goes on the list of a future food destinations.

Pre-arranging bike access with BBG managers worked. Guards let us in with minimal hassle. The kitchen had actually been closed all evening, but this time they let us bring pizza inside.

NYCC Oktoberfest crowd was leaving as we were coming in, but Tim McCarthy just showed up and joined us for good discussion and good pizza. The beer was excellent.

The curse would have been if he stayed. Maybe we WERE lucky.

Serendipitous celebrity sighting: The train back from BBG was an express, so Josh and I rode down to Canal Street. Getting off, we crossed paths with currently-on-leave-NY-Times-reporter Judith Miller.
