Any suggestions for ride routes starting out in Phoenicia? Some friends just bought a house up there and it seems like a nice place to ride. But most of the streets I drove on (it was raining like crazy) stop at dead ends. Not sure what a good route (40-80 miles or whatever) would be. Info on MTBR trails would be welcome too.

thx

"Good Morning. The ride from Phonecia to Woodstock is nice (Route 212). The traffic is somewhat light, and the cars seem to be used to cyclists. Some people ride on Rte 214, but it seems narrow and dangerous to me. I've seen a group of cyclists riding, and eating at Sweet Sues (fantastic pancakes!!!) on Main Street. Perhaps you could find out more information from Sweet Sue. She's very nice.

Also, there are a few cue sheets on a web page called ""Bicyling in Ulster County"" (cut and paste the link below).

Best wishes!

Sue doesn't ride, as far as I know, and would not be the person to ask.

Phoenicia is a great starting point for many awesome rides (Slide/Peekamoose, New Paltz, Devil's Kitchen, Haines Falls, Ashokan Reservoir). Using a map should prevent you from riding into dead ends.
