I was riding out on Long Island to Orient Point and saw a number of ride markings stenciled on the road that said BBB.

Any one know more about the details of that ride? An online map would be welcome. Does it head across Shelter Island to Montauk?

Thanks.

BBB

If they were old and slightly faded they may have been from the 5BBC Strawberry Festival Ride(s) of several years ago.

SBRA's Bike Boat Bike

You probably saw route arrrows from the Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association's annual Bike Boat Bike event, from June. It must have went to Orient Point.

If you saw strange looking pink circle/arrows, it was the North Fork Century, held several Sundays ago. I rode the 100-miler, from Greenport and went to Orient Beach. It's very serene and different.

"""I was riding out on Long Island to Orient Point and saw a number of ride markings stenciled on the road that said BBB.""

Those are definitely Bike-Boat-Bike markings. The routes all begin at the North Fork Bank headquarters on Main Road in Mattituck. This year there was a 50-mile route to Orient Point. Longer routes (65, 100, 125 miles) crossed Shelter Island and returned along the South Fork. Normally, the 50 mile route goes onto Shelter Island, but not this year. See:

There are also other road markings out there (from the North Fork century I think) that look like a large circle with a line indicating the direction to follow. Those start at the Greenport HS.

I was riding out that way twice over the weekend.

"the circle with the arrows are probably from the Tour of the Hamptons:

""The Tour of the Hamptons begins in Southampton and travels through mostly flat terrain and rolling hills on the South Fork, passing farmland, beaches, mansions and historic towns, such as Sag Harbor, East Hampton, Amagansett and Montauk, before returning to Southampton. The tour has routes of 25, 50, 65, and 100 miles.""

It takes you through the best roads the Hamptons has to offer.

One Set Goes to Montauk

They are the Bike Boat Bike markers, they take you on a beautiful route from Sag Harbor out to Montauk Point.
