I have the good fortune of house-sitting in Amagansett over Labor Day weekend and would love some ride suggestions while I am out there. Does anyone have any favorites?

Cheers!

Jessica

Hamptons Riding

A great trick is to follow the street markers of the Tour of the Hamptons. They are white with the letters TOH and an arrow pointing you in the right direction. The TOH is a 100 mile loop through the best riding roads of the Hamptons. It passes through Amagansett so you just start along the way and ride as much of it as you feel like. Just bring a map as well so you can find an easy route back home once you're done.

There are TOH markings heading south on Indian Wells Lane, just before turning left onto Bluff Road. Or you can find one heading east at the end of Bluff Road, pointing you to Cranberry Hole Road, across Rt 27...and it goes from there...

Round trip from Amagansett to Montauk is about 20 miles. That's a good start. You can continue through East Hampton, go up 114 on the return trip, to add on another 9-10 miles each way by going to Sag Harbor. It's pretty flat except for a few small hills outside of Montauk and long, slight uphill grades on the way to Sag Harbor. You can really get some speed going when you have a tailwind, which you will have, on 27 between Amagansett and Montauk. The headwind can be murder on the way back, but it is a good workout riding into it.

You can also buy a bike map at the bike store in Amagansett with some routes on it that contain back roads in the routes.

Thanks so much for your ideas.

I have to brag now. I am trading up from a Trek Hybrid to an Atlantis!!!! My new bike will arrive just before Labor Day, so I will be breaking her in during my Amagansett stay. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!
