What's the best butt balm for preventing chafing and rash? Any recommendations?

Best: Assos
Also ran: Chamois Butter & Bag Balm

Bag Balm is readily available and cheap, but sorta greasy. The other two are more like lotions. And Assos has the tingly zip!

Assos Chamois Cream

"The Assos stuff is advertised as made from 100% natural ingredients. But there seems to be some numbing agent that causes the ""tingly zip."" What is it?
[Edited to add: Never mind. It's probably menthol.]"

1st choice: Relief cream

2nd choice: Chamois Buttr

Bag balm, too greasy. Assos Chamois Creme, too tingly (yes, that is menthol).

Concur with the Assos assessment. Tried it once before a team time trial. It was not what I wanted to be feeling at the moment.

Chammy Butter is the way to go.

You had me thinking...

"You had me thinking...is there something different for women? or is it all the same - sort of. Anybody hear anything special for protecting ""the girl"" - thanks!

Udder Butter

Available in tubs from your local vet supply shop - cheap and excellent. It is also ever so mildly antiseptic, which I think can be helpful in that region.

Udder Butter

Where in NYC did you find Udder Butter? I haven't been able to locate any in the area.

Thanks.

home-made Assos type cream

I found this recipe on a message board for a nice home-made Assos type cream. I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard you can't tell the difference btw this and the Assos brand.

home-made Assos cream
1 jar Utterly Smooth $3.88 for 12 oz at (Walmart).
Once you've opened-up about 2 oz of room in the jar add 3 parts witch hazel and 1 one part tea tree oil.
If you want to be fancy, you can add some Squeaky Cheeks (squeakycheeks.com), which is a powder that contains menthol, to replicate the tingling of Assos.

Assos

I will put in another vote for Assos.

Has anyone heard of using powder? I was on a 7 day ride and some people on the ride were using baby powder instead of creme. I saw them powdering up at a rest stop. They said it worked great. Anyone try this?

powder

Maybe it was squeakycheeks. I have used it, and I like it alot, though it works better for me for running.

Assos gets my vote. I like the menthol. Don’t ever use Bodyglide. I used it recently. My body did not glide!

Oh, by the way...

...you're getting out of those sweaty shorts the first instant possible after riding, right? Not lounging around in them so the bacteria can have a party in your crotch, even if that means changing into loose-fitting dry shorts if you're driving home.

Thought so. And using baby wipes before that drive home wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Yup, changing the diaper is good advice. Thanks.

I'm ready to take on the world now...

Taint got time

I was advised to use A+D ointment (the baby diaper stuff). Like Vaseline with a kick.
