Try eBay -- I found a good, slightly used touring bike there for commuting, and there's lots of decent road bikes for sale. (Obviously, exercise caution about who you're buying from, what you're buying, etc.) This is just one suggestion; I'm sure other people on this board will have their own ideas.

They recondition used road bikes...
