I'm looking at Performance catalog- I've never ordered tubes before. for 700x18-23, there are Performance thorn resistant, Hutchinson Air Light and Air Light Long, Michelin Ultralight and Ultralight long valve, Continental Ultralight, and Slime.
Any suggestions for an all purpose tube?

$4 each for Michelins - that's a steal!
(I'm looking at the Performance website.)
I like Michelins because of the smooth (unthreaded) valves. Some people dislike them for the same reason. Performance tubes have had leakage problems in the past, dunno if that's still the case. Slimes are a good idea that works ok with fat tires/tubes but not very well with skinny ones.
No opinion on the Contis, or the Hutchinsons (reputed to be manufactured under license in the Michelin factory).
You'll need long valve tubes only if you have deep rims.

I have an interesting situation with my rims. They are not deep rims. At home, with a floor pump, I have no problem using standard valves. But out on the road with my mini pump and my CO2, I cannot get air into the standard valves and have found that long valves work better.
Anyone else?"

Buy em by the box full
About every three to six months, Performance sells their tubes in boxes of 10 for $20.00. When this happens, I usually buy 20. I have had good success with these tubes when combined with good tires - I use continental grand prix in front and grand prix 3000 in the rear. Recently, I haven't had a flat in over 700 miles - but my luck will soon run out I am sure.
