Inga and Vitaly - sounds great! thanks for joining in. I know the way up 9W through Havestraw - but need to confirm the turn up into Seven Lakes Drive. Let's stress that we do want to try to keep it moving - i mean, limited breaks. We can get liquids and a small snack up in Nyack since there aren't many options after that for a while if you need to refuel. Bring snacks and gu's. and be prepared for this awful humid weather!

CT would be nice, but a little too last minute for my plans this weekend.

Bear Mt century cue sheet--including water/snack stops

http://www.nycc.org/rl/nj/bearmountain/Bear%20Mountain_82_cue.pdf

I've been up there, but frankly, I just followed the leader instead of the cue sheet--in any case, I don't think we'll have any problems finding our way.

I am 100% in agreement when it comes to limited breaks, and am planning to bring enough energy bars to feed an army, along with endurolytes.

As for the water, I definitely will need to refill the bottles every 25 miles or so--that's the most 2 bottles will last for me--based on prior experience (which should not be a problem--there are water stops indicated on the attached cue sheet). The reason is, since my frame is so small (44 cm) I can't fit really large water bottles and run out before other people do...

Maybe we can do CT next time, if this ride goes well!!!

What time do you want to meet? Where? NJ side of the GWB? As I indicated before, the earlier the better for me (I am up at 5:30am every morning pretty much--but that DOESN'T mean I expect to leave that early, just whenever you all are ready)

Routes to Bear Mt.

"The route you selected is the long way to Bear Mt. If you want a route that's more direct, while avoiding 9W as much as possible, try Fred Steinberg's Hudson Audax 200K. At about mile 48.5 you make a left off 9W towards the Bear Mt. Inn. You follow the road as it winds around to the left, make a right on Perkins, and after climbing to the top you retrace your way to the Bear Mt. Inn and rejoin the cue sheet at mile 82.2."

Thank you!

This actually seems like a REALLY beautiful route--if I'm not mistaken, I've been to some of these places during one of the rides out of West Point. I'd be totally up for doing this one--actually, it's 108 mi to GWB, which is not entirely unreasonable.

Basically, I am going to print out multiple copies of this and the other cue sheet, and we can just figure out on Sun what we are in the mood for.

Thanks again.

Hudson Audax Route

The cue sheet has 121.2 miles to the George Washington bridge. But if you cut out the loop north of the Bear Mt. Bridge (Storm King, Newburgh, etc.), from about mile 48.5 to mile 82.2, and add the few miles it takes to get from 9W to the top of Perkins and back, you have a route of about 100 miles.

thanks for the cue sheet. This looks goood - different than taking 9W on the way out which can get boring.

Let's meet at 8 am at Grants Tomb: 121st & Riverside on the corner of the park (east side of street).

Alcohol and boating don't mix. Wear a helmet and a PFD.

:-)

Thanx

Thanks for your concern but I won't actually be doing the sailing and don't worry this little triathlete has already taken her swim in the Hudson for the season! :)

Boating w/o alcohol does not exist.

(Opinion from a retired windsurfer who was almost run over several times.)

she doesn't need a PFD...

Her nickname is Karafish. I wouldn't worry about her safety in the water. She would probably even enjoy taking a dip in the Hudson :)

ha!

I was scared you were going to say my chest works as my PFD!

Good point

I didn't think about that. Thank you for bringing this up to my (and everyone else's) attention!

would it take us as much as 30 min?

Regina, what do you think? I don't think it would take us half hr to get to GWB from Grant's Tomb (but I am a fairly ignorant individual, so I'd just go with what you guys agree upon). 8:20 maybe?

8:20 it is...

OK - will be by the bridge(Jersey side)at 8:20. Shall we recognize each other by bikes? I ride a white Bianchi. You?

blue (very, very bright blue) Specialized Dolce Elite

I'll be wearing a blue jersey and a white, yellow and green helmet. I'm 5 ft tall (or should I say, 5ft short?)

Just an FYI, my laptop at home is broken, so I won't have email access this weekend (after 5pm today). If anything changes, you can call me on my cell--I am going to email you the number.

15 min--your pace or mine, mr bike racer? :)

seriously, thanks for the info. any chance you want to join us (and maybe pursuade the you-know-who to pass on the coronas and the potential dip in the hudson this time, and come along? :) coronas (or other refreshments) could be had when we are back in manhattan

Bear Mtn insanity!

"wow - i have been out of the loop and missing the party on the message board!

Vitaly - i would think 8:30 am is fine. It usually takes me 20 - 30 min. and if the bridge is busy or something else happening in the city, we have a few minutes buffer.

I ride a Ti Crown Jewel IF - 5'2 - silver helmet, tank top -

DON""T FORGET THIS SUNDAY IS THE LAST DAY OF THE TOUR!! so we gotta get back and watch it!!!!

Kara - have a fun time. Don't get burned! how about picking us up on the jErsey side and giving us a little ride on the sailboat and post-ride refreshments?

THakns also to everyone for the directions and cue sheets.

"

no way we r missing the tour!!!

I am DVR'ing it (is this a word? if not, it is now)...

So, if there's any chance we are going to miss it, we can watch it at my apartment (UWS) when we are back in the city. Of course, in proper fashion, on a big screen TV with beer and pizza (or should we make it french wine and cheese?) Whatever you want to do, but this could always be arranged.
