"People;

I am leading this ride on Sunday -- subbing for Hal Eskenazi who family commitments.

1) Will be keeping to disciplined B16 pace on the flats

2) Am reviewing various cue sheets in a likely-futile attempt to come up with a route that hasn't been ""sigged"" to death. There will be a subway bailout in Queens though possibly not the station listed on the description. Optional mileage back to Manhattan and a possible late food or ice cream stop.

Any questions/RSVPs:

Ride description:

Sunday, 7/17
B16/17 - 68 miles
Need the Ocean???

Starts: 9:00AM at the Central Park Boathouse
Starts: 10:00AM at the Statue of Civic Virtue on Union Turnpike & Queens Boulevard

We're starting at the Boathouse but didn't forget our friends in Queens. We’ll pick you guys up at 10am at Union Turnpike & Queens Blvd & at Statue (across from the triangle).

OK, we're into the summer and you’re thinking I need the beach. Well, we have a solution. We'll take a ride to Oyster Bay, see the ocean, maybe take a dip, have some lunch, take a pocket full of sand and head back. Join us for a ride through the suburbs of LI, amongst trees, beautiful homes and rolling hills we'll find the perfect place for lunch on the water.

Ride finish: 108th St Queens for E,F,R,G,V trains (or other subway stop). There is a bailout in Oyster Bay so bring RR pass & MTA card, spare tire and a warm attitude. Helmet, on head, required.

Cue Sheet

Neile, have a cue sheet that traces the North Shore on the way out. Does NOT touch the SIG route until Oyster Bay. The return from OB is pretty much the same as the SIG. E-mail me if you want me to send it to you. Only drawback is that Roslyn is your lunch stop and OB merely a pit stop. It may also be a touch longer than 70 miles. And it starts and ends in Queens. I've led two B18/19's out this way, it's a nice ride.

Are you going today?

If wet is a concern, I'm willing to (re)consider at the Park.

Estimate

Well, I'm not leading, but B16 means average 13. 65 divided by 13 is 5. Add getting it together at the start and lunch and I imagine we wouldn't be at the subway before 3. 45 minutes to an hour for the train back to the city, and that's 4, but I'd never expect to be home before 5 or 5:30 - that way you don't get a bad surprise.

The ride is closer to 70 miles than 65 and you could be back in Manhattan after 6:00 PM.

Also, LIRR trains leave Oyster Bay for Penn Station at noon, 2:00 and 4:00 with an hour and twenty minute ride.

The ride is OFF.

"The looping weather map over at the National Weather Service site shows a broad pattern of rainfall across the area through to the evening.

(Wait for images to load, then click on the ""Zoom"" button, then on the area you want to focus on.)

I may try to do this as a scouting ride on an older bike later today but I don't want to lead a group through it."
