John Z. will accompany erstwhile partner-in-crime Craig B. on a spin from Oneonta to Wisconsin this week, so he's left it to me to keep the homefries burning.
We will head north into the Bronx tracing the Metro-North tracks, then south on Bronx Park trails. We continue down White Plains Road to Classon's Point. Finally, we locate an open bodega for some 6X2X before destination pizza at Fratelli's.
Maybe a slightly slower pace without John's skinny A-24 butt leading the charge.

7/13, Wednesday - a kinder, gentler Urban Adventure Ride?
"Went up the Bronx tracing the Metro-North tracks where we witnessed the aftermath of a shooting with a huge crowd scene and dozen cop cars flying in all directions. Then across Bronx Park, zig-zagged through North and East Bronx neighborhoods (the most fun sections) till we hit White Plains Road heading south. A local rider, who turned out to be a member of the Puerto Rican Downhill Cycling Olympic team, tagged along and directed us to Classon Point Park for a neat view of the Whitestone Bridge.
Downpoints were repeated attempts to situate the Hunts Point pizza stop. And then the pizza was OK but certainly not ""destination-class"". Afterwards, we rode to the Hunt's Point #6 subway stop.
30 miles total, 16-17 MPH average, including a fair number of hills. A creditable ride and a perfectly respectable mid-week mountain bike workout but John Z. was certainly missed.
