I am looking for a lake or a swimming pool (the ocean is too cold for swimming right now) within 25 miles cycling distance of Manhattan that is open for all to use (pay is ok.) I can only think of one such place...the Nassau County operated 'Nassau County Beach Club'in Lido Beach, which has a nice beach and a swimming pool and is open to anyone (fee required.) The pool is ok for splashing, but, there are no lap lanes for doing laps. Its also a bit more than 25 miles one way. There are also the Seven Lakes in the Bear Mountain area, but, I was looking for something closer. Anyone have any ideas ????

OK not really within distance but I ride up to Harriman once a week this time of year and swim laps at turkey pond. One of the coolest finds in the park. 3/4 mile per lap.

If I have the energy I will head over to Anthony Wayne to run the loop. I think it's 4 miles.

Harriman

Since the swimming is free, you can pay to ride the Metro North to Cold Spring and ride across the Bear Mtn bridge into Harriman.

After the swim, you do have a longish ride home, ~50 mile? But I think it's more downhill than up...

Harriman and bike security

Where do you leave your bike when you swim and run? Any place to lock it up? Thx

Great replies, but, I should have qualified matters by saying (outdoor) swimming pools with lap lanes. There are NYC Parks outdoor swimming pools all throughout the 5 boros, but, I have never seen one with lap lanes.

early bird and night owl lap swims

A number of city pools have early bird (7:00-8:30 a.m.) or night owl (7:00-8:30 p.m.) adult lap swimming. It's free, but you do have to sign up the first time you go and on subsequent visits bring a card they give you.

During the day, most pools have lessons for kids and then open swimming, though I believe that Lasker (north end of Central Park) keeps one lap lane in across the middle. Others may too.

For the list of participating pools see http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub_things_to_do/facilities/af_lap_swim_hours....
