"This week's long awaited ride to City Island will be postponed one week. Sorry for the disappointment. Instead, we will explore Harlem's ""mystery trail"" along with a couple other interesting tidbits in northern Manhattan. Time and bridge permitting, we may buzz over to Randall's Island as well. This week's major difficulty will be broken glass."

great ride

Don't know who was dirtier - me or the bike.
Still can't get that surreal moment of the truck tyre blowout out of my mind.

truck tyre blowout

Hmmm, it must be something with John. ;-O A few weeks back he and I were almost taken out like a set of bowling pins by a truck which suddenly lost its wheel.

Truck Tire Blowout

We were stopped on a ramp overlooking the Major Deegan Expressway by Yankee Stadium. Heard a loud bang, look down and saw a smoking eighteen wheel truck with a tire that had just exploded.

A section of the tire flew up ... passed a hundred feet over our heads and landed in the rail yards behind us. Flight took about six seconds.

Just another part of a surreal evening that included shaking hands with a park ghost, hacking through a temperate rain forest, encountering overly friendly bridge people behind Yankee Stadium, tacking our way through South Bronx hills and back streets and finishing up with impromptu valet parking at the second best pizza place in the city.
