I'd be interested in hearing how long people waited after breaking their collarbone before getting back on the bike

I broke my collarbone at about mile 8 of last years Bloomin Metric and finished the ride. I had broken it a few years earlier and resumed riding in a few weeks.

Collarbone recuperation

I also broke my collarbone at last year's Bloomin!(mile 41?) That was May 23. I did 10 miles that July 17, and then 51 miles on July 25. By August I had little noticeable discomfort riding, but it took a few months more to be able to sleep in some positions. I guess I'm old enough to take longer healing.

2 months

I fractured my collarbone in 2 places. It occured in the dead of winter, so I wasn't very tempted to get back on the bike. I took the conservative route with recovery.
It was 2 months before I got back on the bike. I probably starting riding the stationary bike about a month in. I started that as soon as the pain level become tolerable enough and there was no fear of blacking out.

I don't ride a bike for a living like Tyler (did, past tense?). So why rush it? Having the bone not set right or experiencing a lifetime of chronic, arthritic pain is not worth trying to shave a few weeks of recovery. Good luck.

Recovery from broken collarbone

I broke my collar bone 4 times in 18 years of cycling. The worst was when I made contact with a steel construction plate after being squeezed in by a city bus. My collar bone broke in the middle and had two inches of space between ends; 6 weeks and I was back on the bike. The other 3 times, after clipping wheels, I got back on the bike, rode home, put on the clavicle brace and rode gingerly until I felt ok, about 3 or 4 weeks. It's been 10 years since I've cycled.
