Are there any rides that leave from Prospect Park? I live in Brooklyn and while I can make some of the weekend rides leaving from CP, it would be great to avoid the hour commute to get to the ride start. Any other Brooklyn residents, weekday evenings after 7pm and weekends.

more Prospect Park rides

I am new to the club and am not really ready to be a leader (or I would do Prospect Park rides)... and the only rides I can make are on the weekends because it is impossible to do morning or evening rides in Central Park. I would love to see more PP rides. There isn't a Brooklyn club (that I know of), so I think we get a little left out in that respect.

I do know that the Stressbusters ride on Wednesday evenings does the ride in Prospect Park once a month. I missed it last month because of an injury, but am hoping to make it this month. I don't know the date though.

I'm in the same situation and have lived in NYC for less than a year, so I don't know many ride routes. I'd be happy to meet up with anyone in Brooklyn though and explore together, or do laps in Prospect Park.

Brooklyn Rides

In the last year, I have led two rides that started in the Marine Park/ Mill Basin area. One was 40 miles on a Sunday morning and the other was a weekday morning 15 miler. I will be away until late July, but I hope to post some rides in the late summer or fall. Feel free to e-mail me to get together for rides in Brooklyn, the Rockaways, etc.

Ralph Yozzo and I are going to be leading Wednesday rides at 7:00 PM meeting at Grand Army Plaza. We are also leading a ride to the Caumsett State Park (north shore of LI) on Sunday July 10 leaving from Grand Army. If you would like to do morning laps at arounf 7 30 I would do that as well.

what's the pace?

Thanks for offering to do Brooklyn rides. What will be the pace of those rides? Is the Wednesday night ride a park ride or something else?

Wednesday is usually laps around the park. Occasionally we will go to Coney Island via the shore bike path and return via Ocean Parkway. Pace is about B17 (faster if everyone is ok with that)

Thanks, I'll plan on meeting up for some of the Wed. night rides. I'd be up for morning rides, but 7:30 is too late for me. I have to be done by about 7ish in order to make it to work in time. If anyone is up for early mornings, let me know.

Show and go ...

PP is about ½ the size of CP and that seems to make it more accessible to social riding. You can do laps at just about anytime - 6 AM – 10 PM (getting a bit late) – and not only see other riders, but chat and paceline with them if you like. I almost always meet strangers and friends to ride with, either at 14-18 mph or to drop the hammer with. Racers in training start riding hard – just jump on if you are able – and do 26+ mph, sub 8 minute laps.

So, if there is not an organized ride, you can just show and go.

Check 5bbc.org, day rides page. I think they're starting soon.
