Any thoughts as to Calfee frames and the Bike Habitat store? Thanks

response from a non-owning Calfee admirer

Calfee: a great carbon frame by a great builder. If I had three grand to drop on a special road frame, I'd get one of his. If you ask after one of his bamboo frames, you could be the first kid on your block to have a bike made from a new (ancient) material... and how often does that happen?

Habitat: a great place to buy a custom Mercian.

If you're looking at custom carbon, you owe it to yourself to look at the Parlee and Hampsten/Parlee bikes as well.

Habitat

This April, Eric at Habitat built my Terry Isis--not a custom frame but a high-end production bike. He did a professional job and I'm very happy with the bike.

Owner Charlie McCorkell stands behind whatever he sells and is always responsive to questions, problems, etc. (Every now and then I try to give him a compliment as well. He earns it.)

i wouldn't go custom again

my body dimensions are rather standard, so no special needs. plus, you can't test ride the bike. the only thing you'll know is whether you will fit properly on it. how it handles and feels (quick/stable, flexy/stiff) will be a mystery.

as for this particular frame builder, he's probably just as good as all the other custom frame builders
