After a long run of good riding weather, it appears the forecast for Saturday is not good. However, Sunday looks to be good albeit a bit cold, so we will ride the Putnam Ramble this weekend. Check back this evening for status.

Since its inception 3 years ago, each successive Putnam Ramble ride has improved upon its predecessor. Based upon feedback from various participants, this year's route was has seen its most considerable change. The result is highly scenic, rewarding ride with four major climbs separated by significant distances of flat to rolling roads. Details are as follows:

1) The last half of the outbound section to Pawling was changed to remove the unpopular Route 311 from Carmel to Quaker Hill. It was replaced with a new section of scenic, flat to rolling back roads through Putnam and Duchess Counties. This new section is quite easy to follow and represents a considerable improvement.

2) Pawling is now approached from Quaker Hill via the North.

3) The climb immediately after lunch was removed, and again, all of the unpopular sections of Route 311.

4) The Canopus Hill option with its popular 20% average grade helix remains.

5) The total distance is 93 miles with 7500 vertical feet of climbing including the Canopus Hill Option; or 83 miles and 7000 vertical feet without the Canopus Hill option.

I have a highly detailed cue sheet including a map and an elevation profile. Please feel free to email me if you want to take a look before the ride.

A19 Sweep

The A19 Sweep grouplet will be following John's call as to ride conditions.

However, I doubt we will do the Canopus Hill option with its popular 20% average grade helix!

Total distance will be about 76 miles.

Please check this message board for final call.

Putnam Ramble - latest addition

"John's newly minted cue sheet has just been added to the club's ride library. Maps, turns, elevation gains - it's got everything. It's a beaut.
