RAGBRAI fun

"W/the size of our club and all the funloving members we have,I'm surprised we have not yet formed a contingent of NYCC members to ride this annual party on wheels.Last year we had four NYCC members that met up and did the ride. We all kind did our thing , but saw each other frequently. It would be nice to ride as a large team from the ""big apple""
This will be my 3rd consecutive year and I can't wait for the last weekend in July. As some ragbrai riders put it, w/ all the partying going on,cycling just becomes a mode of transportation to get one to the next town/party. For $110 it's the best bargain for a week long of fresh air, extremely friendly folks, good food and a great oppertunity for making friends w/ cyclists from all over the country/world. and the fun never ends... Ragbrai motto "" what happens @ Ragbrai ,stays @ ragbrai....haah I think Vegas stole that slogan .........Ciao tony M."

RAGBRAI

"Hi Tim, sorry you missed the fun @the annual New Year's day Ride afterparty @ my house ""Villa Mantione"" haha. This year I have been invited to join team Brewhaha. I will be driving to the Chicago area to meet the gang. There is still plenty of time. If you decide to do the ride, you are welcome to join me, at least to the Chicago area. I am traveling alone and have plenty of space in my car for a guest. Best regards ..Tony M."

teams at Ragbrai

Tony,
There were probably more NYCC riders than you think. I was there in 2003.
I might be interested in going back and could easily be swayed if I had the right team to ride with. I rode with DLO and yes, they are the absolute last ones. They rarely got on the road before 10:00 each morning and their riding skills just weren't there. I'd love to be part of a team that had some strong riders who knew how to ride a paceline. I have no interest in doing this without a team or staying in Tent City.

the most important part!

JEFF, you forgot about something that I thought you had a great time with. Our team (DLO) has a rolling bar, Jeff, you have to put values on certain things, and in the right order. First, make sure we have ICE, second, plenty of full ice coolers, third, hmmmmmm, not sure what third is, but anyway, anyone seen my bike anywhere? But you get the idea. Paceline, sure no problemento. And actually, we had early starts last year, I think we got out before 9 AM a few times, I think. Its a very diferent ride, to those of you who are interested, and IT IS a ride that should be experienced. Dancing, drinking, loads of fun, and you do get to ride (around a 500 mile week).

RAGBRAI

"Jeff, I too was there in 2003, and I too put my head down and rode like the wind ( or as fast as this 40 something body could take me ) . But I missed all the fun. Last year I decided to ""take it easy"" and it made all the difference. RAGBRAI ,I beleive is not for paceline hammering, although god knows how many of those passed me. Last year.
I left early, stoppped in ALL the town ,smoozed, visited most roadside attractions, socialized w/ the locals, and returned to my tent very late,( if @ all). I have found that it's the best way to really enjoy the ride. This year I will most likely be bringing my city clunker, fenders and all , since I plan to take it even easier and spend more time smoozing... I get plenty of razzle-dazzle riding through the streets of NYC... I have decided to do RAGBRAI as a vacation, using my bike to get from one place to the next...enjoy your riding......Ciao Tony"
